While a research psychologist Dr. Atsuko Chiba is engaged in the development of device for psychotherapy to monitor people’s consciousness, she has another face. She invented a device called the “DC mini” which allows a user to view people’s dreams. She helps her patients by entering their dreams to heal mental illness by removing their trauma as a dream detective “Paprika”.
One day, three brand-new “DC mini” are stolen. Those were invented by her colleague Dr. Tokita. After this incident, bizarre happenings started to occur that the research members’ consciousness are attacked while they are awake. She starts investigation with Dr. Tokita…
The original story is based on Yasutaka Tsutsui’s 1993 novel. Satoshi Kon, who adores Tsutsui, challenges realization of visual imaging of this novel with his elaborate and spectacular beauty and tricky quick scene changes.
